Sure you’ll be scared shitless and need as much courage as you can possibly muster, BUT the payoff is worth it! Take a moment to imagine the possibilities… You’re not really gonna let a little fear hold you back, are you?  You feared the diving board, riding your bike without training wheels, your first date, college… and guess what? You lived! New stuff is scary, so what! Grab fear by its little hand and walk boldly into the unknown! 

Doin’ your own thing is one way to Live Free!  Living Free is the purpose of my life…  I adore this lifestyle. I live it, breathe it and teach it to all who will listen! You can live free too (if you want)!  Living Free encompasses emotional, mental, career, relational, and physical / proximity freedom. This blog focus is career freedom. 

You CAN do whatever you want, but you must begin! If you dream of working as you sail the seven seas, it’s within your grasp. If you want your own business or a telecommute position, it’s just over the horizon.  If dare to run away with the circus, you can do that too!  

Try These 5 Tips For Doing Your Own Thing—and live free as a bird!  

1)    Dare To Dream Damnit!

The saddest thing I encounter with adults is a lack of dreaming… As children, all we do is dream. In fact, day-dreaming is a wonderful pass-time for children, so much so that we used to get it trouble for it!  Ha, not anymore! 

What the hell happed along the way to interrupt the playfulness and excitement of day-dreaming!  Holy cow, we have to dream, if you stopped dreaming at night, you would literally die. And when you stop day-dreaming, you stop chasing dreams too, and then you feel like you want to die!  Surely life hasn’t beat you down that much… No, you’re probably just out of practice. So, now’s your chance. Make a date with yourself each day and begin dreaming again. Set aside special time daily to strengthen your day-dream muscle, otherwise life becomes (or already has) a total depressing bore!

2)    Your Talents + Dreaming = Excitement For Life

It might take some time to tap into your good stuff, or you might just be waiting for the right moment to make good use of gifts! Either way, get clear about them.  What are your talents? Gifts and strengths? What do you love, like, want to do or want to see become different? What would you like to learn and teach? How do you want to contribute? You can take the answers to all of these questions and turn them into a lucrative business.  This is how every business is born!

3)    Internet Marketing IS Your Friend!  

There are many ways to market your business, yet internet marketing is a primary avenue for most business. I mention internet marketing because most new business owners are intimidated by the idea of internet marketing, building a website (which you can EASILY do by yourself), SEO, link building, adwords, etc. I just want to say that it’s not something to fear or let stop you!  You can figure it out or hire all or parts of it out if you want.

4)    Get A Coach

You might want to hire a biz coach to take you through a successful new business start up! (Like myself… yes it’s a shameless plug! And an effective choice for developing a new business and skill set!)

Coaches are amazing, I have two and use them for different areas. A coach can guide you through specific challenges or opportunities of starting a business.  A business coach can steer you toward a successful new business, mentor you through the stuff you don’t even know to ask, hold you accountable when you’re not trustworthy to yourself and hold your hand when you’re afraid!

5)    Your Talents + Dreaming + ACTION = LIVING FREE!

What are the first 3 actions you can take toward doing whatever it is you want to do?  I mean literally, the first 3 actions. Do those today. Then tomorrow, get up and decide the next 3 actions and do those.  People get stuck because they begin by trying to plan out EVERY action necessary to get to the end goal.  This is a huge mistake.  Just begin.  Take the first 3 actions.  Not the first 3 plans.  Make a call.  Purchase a domain name (ANY name will do as long as it’s about what you want to do or what your want your customer to do. Do NOT labor).

Living Free through a career is your birthright!  Don’t take it for granted!
